TEN QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS TEN MINUTE PLAY 'HONOR THY FATHER'

1. Tell us about your play: Honor Thy Father is about the Gibbons’ family in the mid eighties, coming to terms with dark secrets and secret recipes let loose by Mrs. Gibbons.

2. Who is your favorite character from your play and why? They are all my favorites. Harper-Anne has such an innocent view of the way the world works it is hard not to lean on her for a favorite in this play.

3. What is your favorite scene/moment in the play and why? My favorite moment in this play is the intimate moment between Harper-Anne and Mrs. Gibbons in the kitchen before Cole brings home his chaos.

4. Give us an interesting fun fact about your play: Besides writing it in the garage, my prompt for this play was originally to write something where the characters say “I love you” and “I hate you.”

5. Tell us a bit about yourself: I live in Denver with my wife and children. I love the outdoors and all kinds of music.

6. What’s next? What can we expect from you in the future? I plan to keep writing. I am working on a few different ideas right now in various mediums. In the future you can expect that I put more of my art into the universe to see where it goes.

7. What play are you reading now? Right now I am re-reading Katori Hall’s The Mountaintop.

8. Do you see writing as a career? Yes. I see writing as a necessary and unavoidable part of my life so making it a career is just as necessary.

9. What is the hardest part of your writing process? Every part of the writing process is the hardest part of my writing process from finding enough value in my new ideas to commit them to paper to committing them to paper and struggling to keep it interesting. And grammar.

10. What playwright has inspired you the most? The playwrights that inspired me the most would have to be Tennessee Williams through his body of work and David-Matthew Barnes through his guidance and his work.
